Educational trip for Swanville youth

Swanville fourth, fifth and sixth grade students recently spent three days at Deep Portage Conservation Reserve.

This is an annual event that Swanville Elementary students take part in. The three grades give the students a chance to attend the fall, winter and spring sessions.

Classes this spring included compass reading, TEAM building, water testing, predator-prey relations and some tree identification. Fun events during the day included archery, hatchet throwing, tug-of-war and several other games.

The students also did many nature hikes as well. The last evening is highlighted with a campfire sing-along.

Funding for this is provided by Swanville Lions, PIE and fund-raisers by the students. This year is the 13th year that Swanville students have attended classes at Deep Portage.
