Two runs in bottom of seventh inning by Tech tip LF in softball

After upsetting St. Cloud Apollo in the second round of the Section 8AAA Softball Tournament, Little Falls came close to doing the same against St. Cloud Tech in action on Monday.

The Flyers scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 3-2 lead. Jessica Waltman and Jenney Tonsager singled and Melissa Gustafson laced a two-out double to score her teammates.

The Tigers rallied in the bottom of the inning. Kim Orth hit a two-out single to score the tying run. The winning run scored on a throwing error attempting to get the runner going to third base on the hit.

Little Falls scored its first run in the initial inning on a single by Tonsager and a Gustafson double. Tech scored solo runs in the third and fifth innings.

Nicole Ashby handled the pitching duties for the Flyers. She threw a three-hitter at the Tigers, allowed one earned run, walked four batters and struck out one.

The Flyers had six hits, including Gustafson’s two doubles and three RBI. Tonsager had a pair of singles and two runs scored, Ashby doubled and Waltman singled. All three Flyer runs were earned.

Little Falls ended the season with a 4-18 record.
