Call for artists who want to ‘party’

It’s time to celebrate the arts with the Great River Arts Association’s fifth annual, “Party for the Arts.” This annual event is not only a fund-raiser for the organization, but an opportunity to bring artists and art supporters together in one evening of fun.

This year’s “party” will be held Saturday, March 24, at 7:30 p.m. at the Falls Ballroom, Little Falls. It includes a silent and live art auction. The Great River Arts Association invites area and regional artists to participate.

“We are hoping to have 175 original pieces of artwork in this year’s event,” commented Executive Director Kari Frisch. Every other year the “party” focuses around an art auction with alternating years focusing around a live performance. Each year the event draws more and more people who come together to support the arts. The GRAA office reports that they are already receiving commitments from well-recognized artists. Frisch adds, “The hope is to have a great mix of two and three dimensional pieces of artwork available to meet the wide interests of those who will attend.” Possibilities include original paintings, sculptures, pottery, pen and ink drawings, quilts, and even some stained glass.

“We’ve received many comments from artists who appreciate having this venue to sell their work,” Frisch states, explaining, “It’s a nice situation for artists. They decide the value of their piece, the minimum amount they’ll accept, and what percentage they’ll donate to the fundraiser.” The event helps support GRAA in their arts services, programming, and the awarding of two high school art scholarships. This year’s event will also include wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres, coffees and nonalcoholic samples donated by area businesses.
