New golf course superintendent hired

A new superintendent has been hired for the Little Falls golf course.

The Little Falls City Council approved the hiring of Randy Pankonen, currently the superintendent of the Hillcrest Country Club in Graettinger, IA. He is a graduate of Pipestone Central High School and of the golf course management program at Anoka-Hennepin Technical College. He has spent the last eight years in golf course management, and is a member of the South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota Golf Course Superintendents Association, and of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. He also holds a pesticide license.
Pankonen will begin his new job April 16, with a salary of $38,429 and $1,000 in moving expenses. He replaces Doug Veillette who quit the post after he purchased the local Dairy Queen store.

The city received 25 applications for the position.
