Royalton wins football opener against Menahga

Joel Swenson is one of only a handful of undefeated football coaches in Minnesota.

The first-year coach of the Royalton Royals led his team to an 18-10 victory over Menahga Thursday night.

The Royals led 6-2 at the half, led 12-10 at the end of three and won the non-conference game 18-10.

Royalton’s first touchdown came on a Brian Hanson to Mike Wenner pass that covered 36 yards.

The second Royal TD was also on a Hanson pass, this time to Derek Skalsky. The second TD pass covered 20 yards.

Norm Pollock scored the third Royalton touchdown on a 12-yard run.

Pollock carried the football 15 times in the opener and gained 63 yards.

Hanson was 5-10 in the air for 83 yards. He threw one interception. Wenner caught three passes for 37 yards.

The Royals will host Browerville Friday night. The football field will be renamed the Jim Langer Field at halftime.
