LeRoy A. Swanson, 89
LeRoy A. Swanson, a resident of Swanville, MN and formerly of Bowlus, MN died April 27, 2002 at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held May 1, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bowlus with Rev. Gregory Mastey officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

LeRoy Anthony Swanson was born June 22, 1912 in Elmdale Township, Morrison County to the late C. Fritz and Minnie (Donat) Swanson. He lived many years of his life near Upsala, where he attended school. He was united in marriage to Dorothy V. Fussy on Sept. 1, 1936 at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Francis. Following their marriage, LeRoy and Dorothy lived in Upsala for one year then moved to Bowlus. LeRoy worked as a farm laborer all his life retiring in 1977. In May of 1993, the couple moved to Swanville. In Oct. of 2001, LeRoy became a resident of St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls where he resided until his death. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bowlus. He served for many years on the Elmdale Creamery Board, Creameries Blending Board, Cenex Coop Board and on the school board of District #59.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; sons and daughters, LeRoy (Sonny) Swanson, Jr. and wife Diane of Pierz, Leslie Swanson and wife Sharon of Cody, WY, Bernetta Czech and husband Stanley of Elmdale, Laura Opatz and husband Edward of Brainerd; half brothers, Lloyd Swanson of Minneapolis, Howard Swanson of Texas; half sister, Phyllis Schramm; step-sister Lorraine Staricka of Raymond, WA.; 26 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lois Maciej in 1976; brother, Gordon Rakow; sister, Ethel Holtman and a half brother, Leonard Swanson.

Casketbearers were Jeff Czech, Troy, Rodney, Craig, and Trevor Swanson, Allen and Eugene (Chico) Maciej.
