Pioneers bomb Braham 76-32 and grounds Foley, 47-32

The Pioneer girls basketball team used a strong team effort to bomb Braham, 76-32 Jan. 3. Six Pioneers scored in double figures, helping raise the team’s record to 5-4 on the season.

The contest was lopsided from the start as Pierz took a 22-6 first quarter lead and never looked back. The Pioneers increased their lead to 44-15 by half time and 63-24 by the start of the fourth quarter.

Six Pioneers reached double figures in scoring. Allyson Kloss grabbed eight rebounds and led all scorers with 15 points. Kari Block swatted four shots and nearly had a double-double with her 11 point, nine rebound performance. Becky Korf had 15 rebounds, 10 points and five assists, while Emily Stumpf scored 13 points along with six steals and five assists. Kristen Kapsner and Nicole Meyer scored 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Pierz 47, Foley 32
Emily Stumpf’s 12 point, eight steal, three assist performance spurred the Pioneers over Foley, 47-32 Jan. 4. Pierz used a team total of 20 steals, 10 blocks and 26 rebounds to outlast the Falcons.

Foley led after the first quarter 10-8. Pierz fought back both defensively and offensively, outscoring the Pioneers 39-22 over the next three quarters. Pierz’s defense got stronger down the stretch as the team limited the Falcons to a single field goal in the fourth quarter.

Allyson Kloss again led Pierz in scoring with 14 points and seven rebounds. Becky Korf turned in another brilliant all-around performance with a seven point, seven rebound, four block, three assist game. Kari Block, senior forward for Pierz, added 10 points, and junior guard Kristin Kapsner had five steals and four points.

The Pioneers, as a team, shot 40 percent from the floor and dished out twelve assists. The victory raises the Pioneer record to 6-4 on the season.
