Block hits stride to put Pierz over Pine City 61-52

Kari Block hit her stride against Pine City with a 32 point, six rebound performance. Block’s contributions helped Pierz pull away from a scrappy Pine City team for a 61-52 victory in semifinals of the Sub-section 18 playoffs on Feb. 27.

The Pioneers came out of the gate quickly to take an 18-10 first quarter lead over the Dragons. Pierz increased their lead to 30-18 at halftime, but got a scare from Pine City in the third quarter. The Dragons outscored Pierz 16-11 in the quarter to cut the deficit to 41-34. But the Pioneers preserved their victory in the fourth, thanks to 12-18 shooting from the charity stripe.

The Pioneers held a definite advantage on the boards, outrebounding the Dragons 47-25.

Allyson Kloss was nearly held scoreless with two points, but put together a great performance on the boards with 13 rebounds. Kloss also had six assists in the victory. Becky Korf had nine points and 15 rebounds; Nicole Meyer added eight points and six rebounds. Emily Stumpf scored all six of her points in the fourth quarter, going 6-8 from the line, to compliment four steals. Kristin Kapsner tallied four points.
