Pierz fun run attacts record crowd

The early morning Oktoberfest fun run August 24 in Pierz attracted a record number of participants. Runners of all ages and skill levels converged at Healy High School for the two- and five-mile starting line, including an entourage from Fish Lake who were up for the weekend. Pictured nearing the finish line of the two-mile race are Mark Huffman and seven-year-old son Nate of Pierz. Nate took home a seventh place ribbon. His father came in eighth. Other family members, Ben and Chris earned sixth and ninth place, respectively. “It was warm out for running, but the breeze was nice,” they reported. Rey Zimney, fun run coordinator, said over 40 runners competed in the activity, which was sponsored by the Pierz Lions. Staff photo by Lorae Vardas
