Initiative Foundation, Valspar seek community projects

To help central Minnesota volunteers and organizations spruce up their community in 2004, the Valspar Corporation will again offer awards of free paint and coatings through its “Minnesota Beautiful” partnership with the Initiative Foundation.

Initiative Foundation and Valspar representatives will select about eight restoration or beautification projects to receive free coatings. Projects are selected on their visual impact, volunteer support, intended use and public benefit. Coatings must be used within the counties of Benton, Cass, Chisago, Crow Wing, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd, Wadena or Wright.

Eligible projects may include historic buildings, nonprofit facilities, senior centers, community centers, public buildings and murals. Ineligible projects include those from denominational churches, city maintenance, schools (except murals) and privately owned facilities.

“The Valspar Corporation is a great community partner,” said Dan Frank, Initiative Foundation community development specialist and current “Minnesota Beautiful” program administrator for central Minnesota. “Their consultants provide high-quality paint and professional advice on how to use it.”

Valspar grant applications, due no later than March 1, are available on the Initiative Foundation’s website, www.ifound.org, or by contacting Leah Posterick. For questions regarding project eligibility, contact Dan Frank. Both are available by calling 877-632-9255 toll-free.

Headquartered in Little Falls, the Initiative Foundation serves central Minnesota’s 14 counties as a regional resource for grants, business financing, donor services, and community, organizational and environmental planning.
