To the Editor:
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Many of us look back on childhood as a time when we didn’t have a worry in the world. Unfortunately, many children don’t have that same view. These children are victims of maltreatment and neglect.
In Minnesota, during 2004, more that 7,000 children were abused and neglected, 39 suffered life-threatening injuries and 11 died from their abuse.
The Morrison County Child Protection Team would like everyone to reflect on what they are doing both personally and as a community to support children and families. We all have opportunities to reach out to families in our neighborhoods, churches, and places of employment. The attention of a caring adult can make a big difference in the life of a child.
This April, volunteer to help people less fortunate than you, and try to do something nice for a parent every day. Please help prevent child abuse and neglect.—Bonnie Paulsen, executive chair, Morrison County Child Protection Team.
