An old-fashioned traveling circus was in Pierz last week for two shows under the big top at Pioneer Elementary School. The one-day event was sponsored by the Pierz Area Commercial Club to benefit the Oct. 27 Oktoberfest, said Leon Flicker, project coordinator. Pictured are scenes from the Culpepper and Merriweather production. Once inside, the audience enjoyed a variety of enchanting acrobatic, animal and bird acts, including a troupe of trained camels who paraded around the arena to the delight of children, parents and grandparents. The opening act featured a team of young jugglers on unicycles. Whole families are involved in the circus headquartered in Oklahoma, said Karina Perez, who did a segment with hula hoops, in addition to manning the ticket booth. The 16-year-old’s parents are high wire aerialists.
