Dunlap, Kempenich nominated for ExCel Award

Little Falls High School has nominated Melissa Kempenich and John Dunlap for the ExCEL (Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership) Award.

Sponsored by the Minnesotna State High School League, ExCEL is a unique recognition program designed exclusively for Minnesota high school juniors. Students who are active in fine arts and/or athletic activities, who show leadership qualities, and who are model citizens in their community are eligible for the award.

ExCEL Award recipients are selected through a multi-level process that involves League member schools and an independent panel of judges from schools throughout Minnesota. Award recipients will be recognized on KSTC-TV (Channel 45) during the 2007 winter tournaments.

Melissa Kempenich, daughter of Shawn and Joan Kempenich, has participated in cross country, swimming, Nordic skiing and track and field throughout her high school career. She was a member of the state tournament Nordic Ski team receiving all state recognition in the classical ski and all conference honors. At school she is on the A-honor roll, a member of Target, Flyer Athletic Leadership Council, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She volunteers her time in many areas at her church, Relay for Life, Children’s Ski clinic, Governor’s Ski Cup and Special Olympics.

John Dunlap, son of Mark and Laura Dunlap, has participated in cross country, basketball and track and field in high school. In cross country, he was named Athlete of the Month and Central Lakes Conference Athlete of the Week. At school he is on the A-honor roll, a member of the band, concert band, wind ensemble and pep band. John is also a member of the student council, DECA, Flyer Athletic Leadership Council, Target, MN Mile Leadership Seminar and MASC Leadership Academy. He volunteers his time at church, Oasis Share-A-Meal, Arts and Crafts Fair, Relay for Life, Food Shelf, Community Leaf Raking and many other activities.
