Roy J. Fischer, a resident of Brainerd, died Jan. 26, 2007, at his home.
Funeral services were held Jan. 30 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor David Holte officiating. Burial was in the Vaale Cemetery in rural Brainerd.
Roy was born Dec. 26, 1912, in Manning, Iowa, to William J. and Nettie (Eike) Fischer. He married Helen Kahl in Denison, Iowa, Oct. 11, 1939. They lived in Manning, Arcadia and Westside, Iowa, prior to moving to Pierz where they farmed. Roy had been a Brainerd area resident since 1978. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Trinity Freetimers, and served as a church usher. He had been a member of South Long Lake Association, served on the Consolidated Telephone Board of Directors and Federal Land Bank Board of Directors and the Westside Creamery Board.
Roy is survived by his wife Helen; son Richard (Karen) Fischer of Pierz; daughter Jean (Marcell) Hayes of Pierz; sister Eva Nobling of Manilla, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Julia Rowedder.
