It was a Homecoming to remember for the Bluejackets football team as it had to dig deep Friday night in keeping its perfect record.

In their final, 70-yard drive that featured the diverse talents of quarterback Sam Solberg and company, the Jackets escaped its first defeat of the season by scoring the game-winning touchdown and two-point conversion with 50 seconds left of the fourth quarter to beat the visiting Buffalo Bison 36-30.

Cambridge-Isanti improved to 5-0, while Buffalo has settled for a 3-2 season thus far.

The Jackets began tough with an early 10-0 lead before the Bison battled back behind a tough running game. Fullback Jake Duske scored three first-half touchdowns, putting the Bison up 21-20 at halftime. Buffalo, in the fourth, eventually took a 30-28 lead on a 35-yard field goal.

However, the Bluejackets rallied and took nearly 6 minutes off the clock on their game-winning drive, converting a third-and-long on a pass from Solberg to tight end Tony Meyer with 2:05 left.

Minutes later, Solberg scored from 3 yards out and also ran in the ensuing two-point conversion for the victory.

Up next, the Bluejackets go on the road to face Princeton at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5.

The next home game is 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, when the Jackets will host Monticello.
