Catherine F. Brixius, a resident of Pierz, died Dec. 26, 2007, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz with Father Gerald Dalseth and Father Hilary Brixius officiating. Burial was at St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery in Pierz.
Catherine was born Feb. 2, 1916, in St. Paul to the late Frank and Theresa Gangl. The family moved to the Buckman area where she attended country school District #99. Catherine was united in marriage to Erwin Brixius Oct. 3, 1939, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman. The couple purchased the Brixius family dairy farm and resided there until retiring in 1970 to Pierz. Catherine was employed at Gruber’s Market in Genola from 1968 until 1978. She then volunteered with the Franciscan Sisters in Little Falls for many years. Catherine loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards, embroidery and gardening. In October, 2003, she moved to Harmony House in Pierz. Catherine was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman, Christian Mothers and a social member of St. Michael’s Catholic Aid. After moving to Pierz, she became a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and St. Joseph Christian Mothers.
Catherine F. Brixius is survived by her sons John and wife Gladys Brixius of Buckman, Ken and wife Jan Brixius of Bloomington and Jerry and wife Arlene of Salem, Ore.; daughter Sister Gertrude (Helen) Brixius, OSF of Brooklyn Center; grandchildren Mike Brixius, Karen Johnson, Tony Brixius, Steve Brixius, David (Yumi) Brixius, Brian Brixius and Michele Brixius and a great-grandchild Jessica Johnson; brothers Joe and wife Anne Gangl of Buckman and Steve and wife Mary Ann Gangl of Royalton; sister Agnes Medek of Pierz; and sisters-in-law Dolores Gangl of Sartell and Rose (Brixius) Gohl of St. Cloud.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband Erwin Brixius Dec. 13, 1996; parents Frank and Theresa Gangl; brothers Frank, Paul, John and Louis Gangl; sisters Teresa Przybilla, Mary McDonough and Anna Pohlkamp.
Casketbearers were Mike, Tony, Steve, Brian and David Brixius, Karen Johnson and Bryon Gohl.
