Swimming: Forest Lake fends off Elks (12-29)

Forest Lake won all the close races and pulled out a 98.5 to 87.5 win over Elk River on Saturday, the Elks first loss in three dual meets.

Forest Lake nipped Elk River in all the close calls and defeated the Elks 98.5 to 87.5 in a dual swimming meet Saturday at Forest Lake. It was the Elks first dual meet loss after two wins.

"There were a lot of really close races and Forest Lake won them all," said Elk coach Denise Eidem. "The meet was a lot closer than the score indicates."

The Elks needed a 1-2 finish in the final event, the 400 freestyle relay, to pull it out. But the Rangers won and the Elks finished 2-3.

Elk all-stater Robb Rotramel won the 100 free but got nipped by a Forest Lake swimmer in the 50. Also winning an event were David Olson (200 free), Aaron Schwab (backstroke), and diver Dwight Baker, who had three Ranger divers right behind him in 2-3-4. The medley relay also won.

Eidem commented that Forest Lake was "a fun team to swim against" and the Elks hoped to get them on the schedule again next year.

The Elks, 1-0 in the NWSC and 2-1 overall, will host  Anoka on Thursday for parents night.
