A swarm of volunteers turned out in Hugo Saturday to help clean up areas of the city hit hard by last Sunday’s killer tornado. City officials expected as many as1000 volunteers to turn out for the clean-up day. Here, workers are busy in the front yard of a home on 259th St. N. which is about a quarter-mile from Oneka Elementary School and in the midst of the major touchdown area for the storm. The delegations of volunteers included Lions from Forest Lake, Centerville and Hugo. Business delegations were also on the scene with large groups from major Twin Cities corporations such as Honeywell and Target. Hugo won’t celebrate its Good Neighbor Days festival until this weekend, but Saturday’s clean-up was an early version of neighbors helping neighbors.
