Volleyball: Elks ousted by Forest Lake

The Elk volleyball team finished 12-16 with a three-game loss to Forest Lake in the second round of sectionals.


The Elk River volleyball team's season ended with a drubbing at the hands of Forest Lake in the Section 7AA quarterfinals on Friday evening.

Forest Lake (20-7) triumphed 25-15, 25-13, 25-8 on its home court.

One of the Ranger leaders was senior setter Betsy Kelly, who's also the reigning state golf champion and a four-time winner of the Elk River Invitational. Kelly sets up an attack featuring Lexi Alm (who has over 300 kills) and three other good hitters.

The Elks were limited to 13 kills,  eight of them by Jess Grill. The Elks' attack leader, Rachel Finkbeiner, was held to no kills in seven attempts by the Rangers. The Elks also managed just one ace serve against the Rangers.

Elk River finished 12-16. It was the final match for Finkbeiner (a four-year starter), Callie Schroer and Lauren Cairns .
