Hockey: Royal boys lead M8 after beating Bluejackets

The Rogers Royals won 4-1 over Cambridge-Isanti and grabbed the lead of the Mississippi 8 conference.

 


Chad Miller scored twice as the Rogers Royals grabbed first place in the Mississippi 8, toppling Cambridge-Isanti 4-1 on Saturday.

The Royals (10-6-3 overall) improved to 5-1-2 in the conference and dropped the Bluejackets to 4-2-1. Next is Buffalo at 4-3. Earlier this season, the Royals and Bluejackets tied 3-3.

Miller, a junior, notched his fourth and fifth goals of the season, both in the second period. Also scoring for Rogers were Zach Hnathy and Neal Smith, both in the third period.

Rogers had a big edge in shots, 38 to 15. Austin Eakman was in the nets for Rogers and Wyatt Soderquist for the Bluejackets.

Rogers will host Buffalo on Thursday evening.
