An armed robbery at the CVS store, 10930 University Ave. N.W., Coon Rapids, Saturday morning (March 27) has been tied to a string of other robberies by a lone male in Anoka and Hennepin counties over the past two weeks.

Police are looking for this man following a robbery at CVS

According to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect has been potentially linked to over 14 robberies in the last two weeks.

In addition to the CVS robbery March 27, they include armed robberies at the Payless Shoe Store in Coon Rapids March 22, Denny’s Restaurant at Northtown in Blaine March 19, a Fridley CVS store on University Avenue March 18 and a Blockbuster Video store in Columbia Heights last week.

The description of the armed robber given by the sheriff’s office is a black male in his late 20s to mid 30s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing from 175 to 200 pounds.

According to the Coon Rapids Police report, a male, who was armed with a handgun, demanded money from the cash register at CVS about 7:15 a.m. March 27.

The employee handed the suspect the cash drawer from which he took $78 in $1 and $5 bills, then stole a pack of Marlboro methanol cigarettes before leaving through the main doors of the store in an unknown direction.

A canine unit was brought in and had a strong scent until the dog got to a nearby church parking lot where it hit a dead-end, the police report states.

The robber was described as wearing a baggy black jacket, black baseball cap with a white decoration. He had glasses on as well as a tattoo on the right side of his neck.

At the Payless Shoe Store, 8510 Springbrook Dr. N.W., March 22, the robber demanded all the money and fled the store in an eastbound direction with $278 in cash. He was armed with a black and silver handgun.

He was described as wearing a black zip-up hoodie with red interior, black baggy jeans, black shoes and a black baseball cap with a gray logo on front.

The robbery at the Denny’s Restaurant, 8580 University Ave. N.E., Blaine, occurred about 3 a.m. March 19. The suspect displayed a gun.

According to the sheriff’s office, Game Stop, Subway and other stores have also been hit by the suspect in the two counties.

At least one of the retail merchants is offering a substantial reward for the identification of the robber, the sheriff’s office states in a press release.

The sheriff’s office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the male.

But the sheriff’s office cautions that the suspect is known to be armed and has displayed a handgun during the robberies.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 763-427-1212.
