Ice out on Forest Lake called on Wednesday, March 31

The ice is officially out on the Forest Lake chain of lakes. Corbett Johnson, the local lake observer, said the official ice out date will go down on Wednesday, March 31 when all three lakes were clear of ice.

All three bodies of water had cleared by Wednesday morning, he said.  Most of First Lake had cleared on Tuesday, March 30, thanks largely to strong southerly winds that helped the process. Johnson said reports from co-lake watchers confirmed the official ice out date for the entire chain as March 31. This year’s ice out was more than a week earlier than in 2009 when the ice out was called on April 9.
