In nearly perfect timing, the Northwest Suburban Conference alpine season began Tuesday at Wild Mountain with mixed success by SportsPrepZone area teams.
Andover finished third on the boys’ and girls’ team standings while the Chisago Lakes squad won the boys’ race.
Coon Rapids’ Trevor Pinewski finished sixth overall in a two-run combined time of 52.78 seconds as the team placed eighth among the field of 10 teams. Max Houle placed 29th in 62.02 for the second best boys’ time for Coon Rapids.
Consistency was the key for Andover as it collected 516 team points after the top four skiers finished 12th through 15th place. Justin Rossmeissl led the way with a 12th place finish in 55.07 and Zach Gust was 13th in 56.47. Brandon Rosen and Jake Majors followed in 14th and 15th places, respectively.
Anoka scored a sixth place finish with 387 points and Blaine was seventh with 352 points after one of the conference favorites, Connor Corgard, finished 11th place in 55.58 seconds despite a couple mistakes on the course.
Centennial won the girls’ team race with 416 points while Andover finished third with 335, Blaine placed fifth with 281 points and Coon Rapids was seventh with 207 points. Anoka finished 10th in the standings after collecting points by only two skiers.
Andover ninth-grader Courtney Schwartz was the top finisher, sixth overall in 73.47 seconds followed by Rachel Dorn, ninth place in 77.29 seconds. Blaine’s top finisher, Bailey Caldwell, placed 13th in 81.13 seconds. Coon Rapids’ Jenna Hyde finished 10th in 78.68 and Lindsay Sarich was 15th in 83.73.
