Saints come up short in weekend trip to Iron range

The lone area game played Saturday took place in Duluth as St. Francis boys’ hockey dropped its fourth game in a row, losing 7-0 to Duluth Central at the Duluth Heritage Arena.

The Fighting Saints were out shot 20-16 and gave up two power play goals on three chances. St. Francis went 0-for-3 with the player-advantage.

St. Francis’ Zach Foesch led the team with five shots on goal.

The Fighting Saints began their two-day trip north with a 7-3 loss at Virginia. St. Francis trailed 6-0 after the second period, before Brett Aldrich and T.J. Belisle scored 20 seconds apart early into the third period. Foesch scored on the power play at 6:31 to make it 6-3 before Virginia scored one more time for the final score.

Virginia outshot the Saints 15-7 and 10-4 in the first two periods before finishing off the game with a 33-19 advantage.
