The Lastrup Lakers opened the Region 8C tournament with a bang, slugging nine hits to produce a dozen runs in a 12-1 win over Upsala.

Dave Woitalla ended the ball game with a three-run blast in the seventh to put an end to the game and propel Lastrup into the second round.

The game was scoreless for the first two innings before the Lakers got on the board with an RBI double by Chad Weiss in the third.

Two bases-loaded walks in the fourth inning made it 3-0, but Upsala got one run back on a base hit by Justin Lampert in the sixth.

The game got out of hand in the seventh, though, with Lastrup scoring nine runs.

Weiss went the distance for Lastrup, scattering seven hits and striking out five.

Dustin Biniek and Lampert each had two hits for Upsala.
