Nisswa received a dominant pitching performance from Jason Roepke, Saturday, and along with it a trip to the second round of the Region 8C tournament, as the Lightning defeated St. Stephen 5-1.
Roepke allowed one run in the first inning, but put eight zeroes on the board from that point on, giving Nisswa’s offense the chance to go to work.
Drew Boland and Brett Jenkins were the two biggest factors in that offensive attack, each going 2-for-4. Boland knocked in two runs and Jenkins collected an RBI and crossed the plate twice.
Luke Schumer tied the game in the fourth inning on an RBI double to get the Lightning on the board.
Travis Phelps, Trent Phelps and Dusty Upgren each singled for St. Stephen’s three hits.
Nisswa will advance to take on Lastrup, Sunday, at 5 p.m. St. Stephen falls into an elimination game against Upsala, Sunday, at 11 a.m.
