Turtle races are popular during Platte River Day in Royalton. Pictured are Ryan, left, and Shane Vannurden, las they cheer on their turtles in 2010.

Folks looking for entertainment flood Royalton during its Platte River Day celebration, held the first Saturday in August — which this year, is Aug. 6. Sponsored by the Royalton Lions Club for 17 years, the day holds food and activities for everyone who attends.

The day will begin at 8 a.m. with a 5K fun run.

At 10:30 a.m., a parade will wind through Royalton, followed by a unique auction at noon, turtle races at 1 p.m., a kids’ tractor pull at 2 p.m. and an old-fashioned egg toss at 3 p.m. In the evening, a street dance will entertain crowds from 8 p.m. – midnight.

All day long, food and beverage booths will be open as well as kids games, inflatables, a petting zoo, Kinship cart rides and more.

For information on Platte River Day, call Royalton City Hall at (320) 584-5900 or Jerry Goedderz at (320) 584-5834.
