Boys hockey: Grand Forks Central 6, Princeton 3

Grand Forks Central handed Princeton its third consecutive loss on Friday, Dec. 30 in the Jason Stadstad Hockey Classic in Grand Forks, N.D.

Central defeated Princeton 6-3 in the seventh-place game. The Tigers finished last in the eight-team tournament
Central got on the board first when Jake Purpur put the puck past Tiger goalie Ryan Carlson at the 6:46 mark of the first period.
Princeton’s Joey Stenslie tied the game with a goal at 9:20 of the second period. Daniel Voce was credited with the assist.
Central then scored three goals in a 2:30 period to put Central up 4-1 after two periods.
But Princeton never felt it was out of the game. The Tigers put tremendous pressure on Central goalie Tanner Bender, outshooting Central 12-5 in the third period and picking up two goals. Chase Lindenfelser scored book-end goals for the Tigers at 7:56 and 16:01. Collin Bunness and Jake Green assisted on the first goal. Dan Muench and Green got the assist on Lindenfelser’s second goal.
But Central scored two goals during the period to cement its 6-3 victory.
With Princeton down 4-1, goalie Max Mattson replaced Carlson for the Tigers. Carlson made 16 saves for Princeton. Mattson gave up two goals in relief duty and made three saves. Bender made 38 saves for Central.
