Death threat, assault charges dismissed

A 34-year-old East Bethel man had felony terroristic threats and misdemeanor assault charges dismissed Dec. 6 in Anoka County District Court.

According to the court file, Michael Thomas Ames’ attorney Patrick Fugina asked the court to dismiss the charges because of insufficient evidence.

A 46-year-old neighbor had accused Ames of punching him and threatening to kill him and his 12-year-old son because of an argument over a cat. The alleged July 28 incident was reviewed for about a month until the Anoka County Attorney’s Office decided to press charges on Aug. 25.

Ames still cannot have contact with the 46-year-old man because of an ongoing restraining order, according to the court file.
